Kuruva Island

Kuruva Island is a beautiful tourist spot situa ted in the Kabani River tributary. . With a total area of 950 acres Kuruva Island is plentifully rich with green woods. Kuruva Island is at a distance of seventeen kilometers from Mananthavady. Kuruva Island is a gift of nature to Wayanad tourists. Kuruva Island is separated from other spots but houses a number of rare birds, orchids and herbs. This island is also referred as Kuruvadweep. Kuruva Islands are uninhabited and is situated in the middle of Kabani River. Kuruva Island offers a small and undisturbed forest which is suitable for a relaxing tour. The local population inhabiting the surroundings of Kuruva Island preserves the island and guides the tourists about responsible tourism. The major recreational activity that could be carried out in this island is a relaxing walk enjoying the nature’s beauty. It is essential to note that as a part of eco tourism, partying, or picnic is not allowed in the island. But you can always enjoy the pure natural environment prevailing in this island near Mananthavady. This island is a best sample for a natural rainforest. Thanks for sharing the information about Kuruva Islands. Your tips were helpful during my visit to the island. It was indeed a great experience to spend sometime in the wilderness and at the same time enjoy the beauty of the river. But I was a little bit unprepared since I didn’t know this is a true wild experience. I didn’t carry any food expecting some restaurants there but only after reaching there I realized this is a place to enjoy the natural beauty with no urbanization and no business. Thanks to all the nature activists, this place is still kept as natural as possible. Rafting through the river is an unforgettable experience. Please note that this place is closed for visitors during monsoon. So check before you go to avoid disappointment. Usually DTPC announces ahead of time about closing the islands for visitors when the monsoon starts.
