Edakkal caves are located at a height of 1000 mts on Ambukuthi mala near Ambalavayal. A legend about this cave states that the caves were formed by arrows shot by sons of Sri Rama, the Hindu god from the epic Ramayana. There was a huge height to be climbed to reach the top of the cave .Inside the cave we can see pictorial writings and carvings on the cave wall..these drwn attention of worldwide historians and archaeologists to this place. The new stone age pictorial writings on the walls of these natural caves at Edakkal are the evidence of the civilizations that existed in the regions in the pre-historic times. The painting consisted of tribal leader with headgear and complete dress. Pictures of women dressed with headgear, animals like dog, elephant and also pictures of kids playing. These pictorial writings are considered to be done by men lived in neolithic period. It is a world heritage site. The most fascinating is a unifrom crack, that seperated a big hill into two pieces. It is said to be around 30,000 years old crackIn order to reach the hill top which was further 1000 feet above there were pathways made by the previous climbers. When you reach into the top of the hill , you will b relaxed and the view from the hill top will make your heart nd mind cool. Edakkal cave in Sulthan Bathery is an excellent historic treasure which is yet to be completely explored
